Powerful titles have mostly been lucky for Nandamuri Balakrishna. Continuing the sentiment, Sriwass choose a impactful title like 'Dictator' for his maiden project with Nata Simha. Was the Director-cum-Producer able to continue the success streak that began with 'Loukyam'?
Synopsis:
Chandu (Balakrishna) works as a Super Market supervisor in Hyderabad, whereas his wife lives in Delhi. In an attempt to save a girl named Indhu (Sonal Chauhan), Chandu kills Minister's Son and his entire Gang. Thereafter, Police receive shoot-at-site orders to get rid of Chandu and it was then his real identity will be disclosed. Who is Chandu & what's the untold secret about his past? Why does his wife stays in Delhi when he was in Hyderabad? Grab the tickets of 'Dictator' for finding the answers..!
Performances:
Roles like 'Dictator' are a cake walk for Balakrishna. He entertains with his punchlines and masses will connect with his power-packed performance so well. More than his role as Chandu, Its the character of Chandrasekhar Dharma which hits the right chord with the audience. He deserves appreciation for working so hard to please his fans with dances and fights at this age.
Anjali did justice to her role but don't have the scope to leave a big impact. Sonal Chauhan scores brownie points with her glamourous avatars. Rati Agnihotri as Lady Villain was able to match up with Balakrishna in confrontation scenes. The Actor who played her Son-in-Law wasn't as impressive as her. Pruthvi failed to generate rib-tickling comedy this time. Nasser, Suman, Shayaji Shinde, Posani and Others played their parts as per the requirement.
Pros:
Heroism & Glamour
Commercial Elements
Cons:
Routine Story
Predictable Screenplay
Technicalities:
Few songs (Whats App Baby, Chura Chura) composed by SS Thaman were good but the rest weren't pleasing enough. Chinna's Background Score is nice, especially the theme music for Dictator's role. Camera Work by Shyam K Naidu is alright. Its high time Kona Venkat & Gopi Mohan come up with fresh content rather than just recycling proven template. Ratnam's One-liners were good in few sequences and Fans will love them. Sriwass dealt a routine subject in an appreciable manner but no one knows why he chooses such content every time. Production Values of Eros & Vedaswa Creations are laudable.
Analysis:
Sriwass, Kona Venkat & Gopi Mohan are known for picking up routine subjects and trying to narrate them in an entertaining manner. Even 'Loukyam' is no different and its been an undisputed super hit. In the same manner, 'Dictator' offers nothing new but its a blend of Heroism, Punchlines, Comedy in bit & parts, Glamour of Heroines and other Commercial Ingredients.
The same old 'Basha' template has been used again for 'Dictator'. It must be said that Makers have prepared the audience what they gonna expect from the movie with theatrical trailer itself. 'Dictator' has got the heroism elevating scenes Balayya Fans would thoroughly enjoy, especially the action sequence & punch dialogues in the Bar. Comedy Track in super market didn't click much but Sonal Chauhan steals the show in these episodes with ample glamour show. Confrontation scenes of Balakrishna and Rati Agnihotri worked out well.
Age-old Story & Predictable Screenplay have been the major drawbacks of 'Dictator'. The forced song after the Flashback episode and routine Climax were also a letdown. Had if there was good humor in the movie just alike 'Loukyam', The reach of this Balakrishna starrer would have so big and Sriwass failed to fully utilize the bunch of comedians. To conclude, 'Dictator' will please the fan base of Balayya during this Sankranthi season.
Bottom Line: Routine Mass Potboiler!
