Is Akkineni Family Losing Its Hold On Tollywood?
By: Tupaki Desk | 29 April 2022 12:55 PM GMTAre Akkineni family heroes losing their influence in Tollywood? The answer we are getting is a 'Yes' by many. Heroes from other families are scoring hit movies which are getting more than 100 crores and making pan-Indian movies while the Akkineni heroes are struggling to get 50 crores films.
This is shocking many people in and around the industry. Among the Tollywood heroes, Nagarjuna has a good image in Bollywood. He impressed the audience with Ram Gopal Varma's 'Shiva' back in those days and he grabbed some interesting offers then.
He played a full-length role in 'Khuda Gawa' with Amitabh Bachchan. Sridevi was his heroine in that film and he got a lot of craze in Bollywood at that time. He acted in 'Drohi', Mahesh Bhatt's 'Criminal', 'Angare' with Akshay Kumar, 'Jhakm' with Ajay Devgn, 'Agni Pariksha' with Amitabh and Raveena Tandon, 'LOC' and others. He recently did a key role in Ayan Mukharjee's 'Brahmastra' which has Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt playing the lead roles.
Nagarjuna has very strong connections to Bollywood and he acted in Hindi films till the end of the nineties. Now, he is unable to change according to the trend and none of his movies are made on a budget of 50 crores which explains how far his market dropped. Though 'Soggade Chinni Nayana' and 'Bangarraju' crossed 50 crores, none of the Akkineni family heroes were able to act in movies whose budget is above 50 crores.
Films are Nagarjuna are not able to attract the audience like before. Even his 'Bangarraju' managed to get an average talk and it is tough to get big projects at his age. But the situation of his sons Naga Chaitanya and Akhil is not at all encouraging.
Naga Chaitanya will be seen in a key role in Aamir Khan's upcoming film 'Laal Singh Chadda'. It is his first Bollywood film but he is just a supporting actor in it. He is also doing a web series on a pan-Indian level under Vikram Kumar's director. Chaitanya is planning to get nationwide recognition with this web series 'Dhootha' which will be released on Amazon Prime Video.
On the other hand, Akhil suffered successive flops like 'Akhil', 'Hello' and 'Mr. Majnu' at the beginning of his career. He scored his first hit with 'Most Eligible Bachelor' and he is aiming at a pan-Indian market with 'Agent'.
Directed by Surender Reddy, this film has Malayalam Megastar Mammootty is playing a key role in this movie. There are good expectations on this movie and we need to see how it fares at the box office on 12th August.
Though 'Manam' was a sensation back then but they did not score an industry hit till date. Fans of the Akkineni family are hoping that the young heroes score successive hits and increase their market thereby giving tough competition to other heroes.
