Trailer Talk: Why Karuppu Is Like Mass ‘Vakeel Saab’?
This trailer of Karuppu/Veerabhadrudu sounds more like a mass version of Pawan Kalyan’s Vakeel Saab, which happens to be a remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s Pink movie.
By: Shanaz B Syed | 11 May 2026 3:05 PM ISTTamil comedian RJ Balaji is known for interesting films like LKG and another one, Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman, which have an important social message, a different take on the system and beliefs, and worked out well at the box office. As he teamed up with superstar Suriya this time, and going by the early teaser of the movie, many felt that he’s making a Kantara like film. The film is titled “Karuppu” and the Telugu version is titled as “Veerabhadrudu.”. But the trailer left everyone shocked.
In fact, the trailer showcases that Veerabhadrudu is a village-based hero, who lives far away from the city. When a victim fails to get justice in a High Court, finally, he emerges as the lawyer and does everything in his hand to get her justice. This trailer of Karuppu/Veerabhadrudu sounds more like a mass version of Pawan Kalyan’s Vakeel Saab, which happens to be a remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s Pink movie. The core point of a hero, who has retired from Court life, returning to the law and getting justice for the victims, is a routine one. Many are wondering why RJ Balaji has chosen such a soft story for Suriya, or maybe he’s hiding the main theme of the movie, which might shock us inside theatres.
While the songs scored by Sai Abhyankar for this film are getting some attention, somehow the film’s trailer hasn't raised any expectations. However, the presence of Trisha, in the same saree look that of she attended Tamil Nadu’s new Chief Minister Joseph Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony, has generated some excitement. However, her role looks like a routine running-after-hero kind of one, rather than something special and author-backed. Karuppu is hitting cinemas on May 14th in Tamil and Telugu as well.
