K. K. Senthil Kumar, the cinematographer behind countless blockbusters like "Magadheera," "Eega," and the "Baahubali" franchise, has enjoyed a fruitful partnership with director S.S. Rajamouli for over two decades. Their upcoming project, the adventure drama "SSMB29," marks yet another chapter in their successful collaboration. However, in a recent interview, Senthil Kumar revealed a surprising fact – he wasn't always on board with Rajamouli's larger-than-life vision.

Senthil Kumar hails from a filmmaking school that prioritises logic and realism. Initially, Rajamouli's brand of mass entertainment, known for its fantastical visuals and grand narratives, clashed with Senthil Kumar's sensibilities. "Getting into mass entertainment movies was a bit difficult for me to digest initially," he confessed in an interview.

But Senthil Kumar's perspective shifted dramatically after witnessing the audience's enthusiastic response to Rajamouli's films. "When I saw how audiences were reacting to it and perceiving it, I changed the way I looked at cinema," he explained. He realized the potential of embracing the director's unique vision, especially with the advancements in technology and budgets that allowed for the creation of seemingly impossible visuals.

This newfound understanding proved to be the key to their successful collaborations. Senthil Kumar credits Rajamouli's collaborative spirit for their achievements. "He gives complete freedom to think wild and come up with anything," he said, detailing how the director empowers his team to bring his fantastical ideas to life. Senthil Kumar even shared an example from "Baahubali," where the director meticulously pieced together scenes with the help of CGI to achieve the film's signature grandeur.

With "SSMB 29" on the horizon, it's clear that Senthil Kumar and S.S. Rajamouli's partnership continues to thrive on mutual respect, creative freedom, and a shared passion for pushing cinematic boundaries.
