Even if they score a big hit, we see many talented directors slowly fading away as the years pass by. There are only a few filmmakers who maintain the same level of creativity, freshness, hunger and love for cinema. Creative genius Sukumar is one such rare writer and director who surprises the audience and makes them excited with each and every project.
He shattered the norms of love stories with his romantic entertainer 'Arya' which came in 2004. His visual style and new narrative sense made the film iconic. Sukumar's debut film made Allu Arjun a star. Coming to his second film 'Jagadam', he showed his unique style and sensibility. Ram Pothineni was showcased in a mass way and he demonstrated his ability to conceive mass moments without falling back on run-of-the-mill templates. His next film 'Arya 2' has a separate fanbase.
The way he narrated such a complicated film with complex characters in a pleasing way is something to marvel at. The film featured excellent songs made special by his Midas Touch. He showcased us that a hero can be egoistic and still be loved through Naga Chaitanya's '100% Love'. It is a terrific character arc and his creativity is seen in each and every frame.
What followed is one of the best psychological thrillers ever made in Telugu cinema. '1 Nenokkadine' was a masterpiece and despite its commercial success, everyone claim that it is brilliant and way ahead of its time. Sukumar showed that you don't have to be conventional and play safe while doing a superstar movie. He showed his guts by making such a movie with a superstar like Mahesh Babu. His intelligence in writing a stylish revenge drama was showcased through NTR's 'Nannaku Prematho'.
He came out of these thrillers and intelligent films and challenged himself by opting for a periodic rural drama like 'Rangasthalam'. It ended up being one of the greatest classics of Telugu cinema. The Ram Charan-starrer remains worthy of repeat viewing, thanks to its all-round appeal. The naturality presented by Sukumar played a key role in its success.
He turned into one of the top directors of this country through 'Pushpa: The Rise'. He dared to present a stylish star like Bunny in a rugged avatar. He won the hearts of everyone across the nation and the film became a sensation. The way a smuggler is showcased as the hero is something quite unique and mesmerising. He is now arriving with the second part of 'Pushpa' which is expected to cement his legacy as one of the best and creative directors in the country. As one of the finest and top-tier filmmakers in the country, he attracts a great deal of respect for the intellectual writing and making he is known for.
