August Score: 1 Six, 3 More Shots Remaining
With a gross collection of almost 30 crores in the first weekend itself, that’s a super six from Korean Kanakaraju.
By: Shanaz B Syed | 10 Aug 2026 1:53 PM ISTLike it was discussed in these columns already, the box office battle of August 2026 just got bigger, with a lot of movies trying to prove their mettle at the box office. Of them, some are running high with expectations and star power too. Already, last Friday, we saw hero Varun Tej and director Merlapaka Gandhi proving their mettle, with Korean Kanakaraju.
With a gross collection of almost 30 crores in the first weekend itself, that’s a super six from Korean Kanakaraju. Now that it’s over, the next three big shots are remaining. That includes Naga Vamsi and Venky Atluri’s Tamil film Viswanath & Sons, whose Telugu version is hitting cinemas this week on Aug 14th. That will be followed by Raviteja’s Irumudi, which will release on the following Friday. And then the last Friday of August, on 26th, we have Yash’s Toxic hitting cinemas.
If we elaborate on the expectations for these movies, though Venky Atluri carves out decent output, somehow Suriya’s Viswanath & Sons haven’t got many expectations. At the same time, with Shiva Nirvani known for love stories and this time carving out a different film like Irumudi with Raviteja, nothing can be said about the movie until the trailer comes out.
Cut to Toxic, the film’s high-impact, high-voltage dark trailer has hit a chord with youth, and they might turn up en masse to theatres. But this being lady director Geethu Mohandas ' first-ever commercial film, it has to be seen whether her abilities match that scale or not.
Hope all the remaining shots will be hit for six, such that the whole film industry will have collections rain or shine.
