Diwali Affect: Air Quality In Delhi Gets Worse
By: Tupaki Desk | 5 Nov 2021 5:43 AM GMTNational capital Delhi is one of the regions to have the least air quality in the country. The air quality goes for a toll whenever the Diwali festival comes. The air quality measures after the festival show us how much impact the cracker bursting has on the air quality and environment. The experts have measured the air quality in Delhi and expressed their concerns on the same.
The points Delhi received in terms of the Air Quality Index (AQI) before and after the festival gives an insight on how poor the air quality in the national quality is. Before the festival, the AUI stood at 382 and rose to over 500 points. The air quality had worsened to a level that in a few regions, the sky was not even visible.
The air quality in Delhi-NCR worsened to such a large level that Noida and Posa Road recorded 526 and 505 AQI points. Having such high AQI points indicates that the air becomes toxic and people taking a breath in the areas will have severe health issues.
A few regions saw people bursting firecrackers in the evening itself. As a result of this, people from a few regions in the national capital Delhi developed symptoms of teary eyes and an itchy throat. The severe air quality is said to continue for three days and the experts urged people to be careful and use face masks without fail.
The Air Quality Index points were more than 600 points, the peaks of toxicity during the early hours of Friday and by 9: 00 the quality stood at more than 500. As per the measurement, if the quality is more than 400, the air quality is worse. If the points are between 401-500, then it indicates the air quality is severe and hazardous.
Learning a lesson from the previous year's experience, the Delhi government had announced a ban on firing crackers. However, people have managed to get the firecrackers from neighboring states and burst them. This had led to a negative impact on air quality. The government had arrested a few people for buying the crackers. But this did not help in stopping the people from using the firecrackers.
