The Andhra Pradesh government led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took a key decision to ban the famous Chintamani Natakam, which has been played for the last 100 years. Now the issue reached the High Court after a petition challenging the government's decision was filed in the court.

During the arguments, the lawyer representing the petitioner told the court that banning the play will leave a toll on the artists. Through the advocate, the petitioner said that the decision is not appreciable.

Rubbishing the arguments, the government's counsel said that the decision was taken by the government after a few objections were placed before the government.

After hearing the arguments of both sides, the bench asked the government why the play was banned when there were objections to a particular character. The bench also asked the government to list out the objections received on the play.

After issuing directives to submit the objections received against the Chintamani Natakam, the Andhra Pradesh government said that the next hearing will be held on Tuesday. By the time the court hears the petition, the Court asked the government to file a counter.

The Andhra Pradesh government decided after a few Arya Vaishya groups have reportedly raised a few objections to the play on the grounds of allegedly showing the community in a bad light. Considering the objections, the government had banned the play.
