Are both Congress, TRS falling into BJP's trap in Telangana?
By: Tupaki Desk | 5 Sep 2022 6:41 AM GMTIt is becoming increasingly clear that the BJP is setting the political agenda in poll-bound Telangana. BJP's campaign blitzkrieg and social media onslaught are pushing the ruling TRS on the backfoot. The BJP strategy of occupying the opposition space by edging out the Congress too seems to be paying off in Telangana. Now the Congress is forced to toe the BJP line on various issues.
The BJP's decision to launch Operation Akarsh in Telangana has put both the TRS and the Congress on tenterhooks. The two parties are now forced to protect their flock and prevent BJP's poaching. Operation Akarsh and joinings have become the major agenda in Telugu politics. Similarly, the BJP forced the other parties to enter into a debate on freebies and the state's financial position. This has pushed the TRS on the backfoot.
Regular visits by central ministers, national leaders and election strategists to Telangana and their continuous bombardment has also left the Congress and the TRS confused. For instance, the recent diatribe of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman on the central allocations to the Rs 1-a-kg rice scheme has thoroughly left the district collector nervous. It also put the TRS on the defensive.
It has managed to set the agenda again by forcing Munugode bypoll. The Congress is running for cover, while the TRS is forced to go on the defensive. the party is now working hard to create a favourable impression on the voters in Munugode. At the same time, the BJP has used the September 17 Hyderabad liberation issue to a deadly effect. It has forced the TRS and even the MIM to celebrate the day. Till now, the TRS has strongly opposed the BJP on this issue. Now it is forced to agree to celebrate september 17, the day when Hyderabad was liberated. Thus, the BJP is forcing the two parties - the TRS and the Congress - to enter its trap and get ensnared. As of now, both the parties do not seem to have any clue as to how to get one up on the BJP.
