Are KCR's fears about road roller and roti maker true?
By: Tupaki Desk | 7 Nov 2022 11:16 AM GMTAre KCR's fears about election symbols that closely resemble TRS election symbol car real? If one goes by the votes that symbols like Road Roller and Roti Maker, which have similarity with the car symbol, got in the Munugode bypolls, one must admit that KCR was after all right. Together, the two symbols polled more than 4600 votes.
This is quite significant as the election was a closely contested one and in most of the rounds, the difference between the TRS and the BJP was less than 1000. The independent with road roller symbol got 2407 votes, which is far too higher than what evangelist KA Paul and Prof Kodandaram's TJS got. Similarly, the candidate with the roti maker symbol got 2270 votes.
Together these two independents polled more than the votes polled by Bahujan Samaj Party. In fact, former IPS officer Praveen Kumar and his supporters camped in Munugode for over a month and campaigned vigorously. Yet the two independents polled almost the same votes without much effort. The total number of votes polled by the independents is 12214, which is higher than the TRS candidate's victory margin.
The BSP got 4145 votes, while Prof. Kodandaram's TJS candidate got a mere 167 votes. It is clear that the independents could have upset the TRS applecart in a much closer contest.
