BCCI to decide on Virat Kohli leading ODI team!
By: Tupaki Desk | 6 Dec 2021 10:09 AM GMTAll eyes are now on the high-level meeting of the national selectors to zero on the final squad for India's tour of South Africa. The selectors are likely to take key decisions on the team including the change in the captaincy for the team. The much-awaited selector's meeting is likely to take place this week.
Adding fuel to the opinion that Run Machine Virat Kohli would be restricted to the Test cricket captaincy, it is said that the selectors are likely to take a call on making current T20 captain Rohit Sharma, the white ball cricket by giving him additional responsibility of the 50-over captaincy too.
As the Men in Blue will lock horns with South Africa in the upcoming India tour of South Africa, reports are abuzz that the apex cricket body in India Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) would discuss key issues including the change in the captaincy.
The other opinion that is doing rounds is that the majority of members of the selectors' team are in favour of giving full charge of white ball captaincy for Rohit Sharma keeping the 2021 World Cup in mind so that he gets time in finishing the best team for the prestigious event.
Now the ball is in BCCI's court on finalising the captain for the South Africa tour. Will they go with Virat Kohli or opt for Rohit Sharma paving way for his full-time white-ball cricket captaincy? Well, only the BCCI has the answer for this. In a few days, they will call for the meeting and decide on this. After taking over the captaincy from Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virat Kohli established himself as the successful Indian captain. He even surpassed Dhoni's success rate across the formats.
Before the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli announced that the event would be his last as the skipper. Sadly, the team India could not lift the trophy making the quest of Virat Kohli to lift an ICC trophy a longer one. After he stepped down as the skipper, Virat is taking care of the ODI and Test series.
