BRS big worry: Why anti-Revanth protests failed ?
X
The ruling BRS in Telangana is worried over the lukewarm response to the spate of protests it organized across the state against TPCC chief Revanth Reddy's recent comments on free power to the farmers. The BRS gave a call for state-wide protests, but found to its shock that the people have largely remained aloof and did not spontaneously join the protests.

More surprisingly, the media coverage of the protests too was anything but enthusiastic. Except for the programme attended by MLC Kavitha, the other protests did not get the kind of coverage BRS would have wanted. The protests at the district level were not even covered, say those monitoring the media for the BRS.

The BRS expected that the free power statement of Revanth Reddy would inflame the people's passions and that they would spill over on to the streets in support of 24-hour free power. Revanth had said that 8-hour free power was enough for the farm sector. However, the public response to the comments was negligible. Some BRS biggies are said to have expressed dismay at the lack of enthusiasm among the people.

The BRS sources also feel that the fact that KCR, who gave the call for the protests, himself did not join them. Also, several ministers stayed put in Hyderabad and did not join the protests in their respective constituencies This must have had a dampener effect on the party workers, say analysts.
