The largest populated state also has the highest number of Lok Sabha seats with 78.Off late, the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled state is staying in the headlines with its bulldozer policy.
Whenever any protests take place, the Uttar Pradesh police identify the protestors and bulldoze their property. Few other BJP-ruled states are following the same. Everyone started talking about the Bulldozer policy when the Delhi civic body demolished the alleged illegal constructions.
The Uttar Pradesh government which surprised everyone with its policy had made a big u-turn and said that bulldozing the properties has nothing to do with the protests, but they were bulldozed due to the violations.
The sudden shift came as a surprise to one and all. In the affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, the UP Sarkar said that as a few rules were violated by the owners of the constructions they were bulldozed.
The demolition drive started in Uttar Pradesh brought a bad name for the BJP. As the saffron party is aiming big for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP is reportedly trying to reduce its criticism. It cannot do much on issues like petrol prices, commodities and gas prices.
Demolition is in its hands and that is why the saffron party took a U-turn and informed the court that as per the law, they have demolished the illegal construction and the drive is not related to any protests or protestors. We have to see if the affidavit can reduce the criticism or not.
