Can New Sri Lanka President Prove Legislators Trust In him Right?
By: Tupaki Desk | 20 July 2022 12:58 PM GMTThe ongoing crisis in Sri Lanka is an eye opener for many nations and it doesn't need any introduction. The situation reached a point where the Prime Minister stepped down from his position and the President left the nation faring the public wrath.
Amid the crisis, the nation welcomed its new President in Ranil Wickremesinghe, who has been serving as the interim President. In the polls, he got a clear majority as 134 out of the 219 members cast their votes in favor of him. The members of the Parliament did not trust the other candidates.
The new President has a big challenge in front of him. Sri Lanks went bankrupt almost and there is a big shortage of supplies and essential commodities. Sri Lanka is barely surviving with the help extended by the nations like India and others.
Though the nations said they will continue the help, the President will have to bring things back to normal and the hard-hit economy has to be brought on track, which is going to be a rollercoaster ride.
A few global bodies including IMF came forward to hold talks with Sri Lanks on the crisis situation and we have to wait and see how well Ranil Wickremesinghe will use the opportunities that are in front of him.
The legislators trusted him and now it's his turn to prove the trust right. If he can make some change to the nation, then the legislators will be proved right by Ranil Wickremesinghe, who got a clear majority in the Presidential polls. Or else, the nation might go to the polls yet again.
