Catch 22 for KCR: What is his strategy for Karnataka?
X
The ruling BRS in Telangana is finding itself in a piquant position over the elections in the neighbouring Karnataka. The big question is over what should be the BRS stand on Karnataka elections. The party has not yet decided on whether to support the HD Kumaraswamy-led Janata Dal (Secular) or not.

The BRS is worried that if the JDS fails to make a mark despite the BRS actively working for it, it would greatly damage the image of the party. It would be like a false start in national politics. The BRS clearly wants to begin its national foray in a spectacular way. If it plays safe and stays away from Karnataka elections, HD Kumaraswamy could leave the alliance led by the BRS. This could hit the credibility of the BRS in general.

Another major problem is that elections to the Telangana assembly too would be held almost at the same time. If that happens, will the BRS be in a position to spare its resources for the JDS? And what if the party allocates funds for the JDU and faces paucity of resources for its own election in Telangana.

In fact, the JDS is the only political party that has so far aligned with the BRS. If KCR choses to stay away from Karnataka elections, the solitary supporter of the BRS at the national level too might slip away. Thus, KCR is caught in a classic Catch 22 dilemma. It remains to be seen what strategy he would adopt on Karnataka.
