Central Vista Project: What About delimitation of Seats in AP,TS?
By: Tupaki Desk | 9 Aug 2022 10:43 AM GMTThe Bharatiya Janata Party proposed the idea to construct a new Parliament building so that the construction would accommodate all the MPs without any issues. The proposed building has better facilities and opportunities and more seating capacity compared to the existing building. The Parliament building was named Central Vista Project.
Despite heavy criticism of wasting crores of rupees on the building when the existing structure is doing fine, the union government is not in a mood to stop the project. The project work is going on at a brisk pace and the construction would be finished by the November of this year.
The specialty of the Central Vista project is that once it gets finished, it can accommodate 100 more MPs than the existing members. At present, there are 788 MPs in the country in both houses and the new building has a seating capacity of 888 seats.
The new building comes with an increased seating capacity keeping future needs in mind. As a few states are likely to see the MPs seats getting increased, the union government made arrangements for the same and the legislators who would become MPs in the coming days would face no issues.
Earlier, the union government said that the 2026 census would be the base to increase the MP seats. However, the ruling party in Andhra Pradesh wants the centre to take various aspects into consideration to increase the MP seats.
Moreover, the Telugu states Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are entitled to an increase in the Assembly and Parliament seats under the bifurcation act.
It has to be mentioned here that, the Andhra Pradesh government led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy brought a few new districts based on the Parliament seats for easy governance.
Going by the statements of the union government on increasing the MP seats based n the bifurcation act, the census would be the key aspect. For this, the Telugu states might have to wait for a few years. Conducting a census program is not an easy task and it is a time taking one. Let us wait and see which regions would see new Parliament constituencies coming.
