The BJP has every reason to feel elated as the results of the counting of votes to the five state assemblies are out. The BJP is all set to retain the four states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa. It has won with increased manjories in Manipur, Uttarakhand and evnn in Goa. In Goa, the party is two seats short of the magic figure, but is set to form the government with the help of independents and others.

The real success story is the BJP, where belying all the hopes of the anti-BJP forces, the BJP has posted quite a significant victory. At the last count, it is leading in 276 seats. Also, the BjP has completely decimated Congress, BSP and other smaller parties. Only Samajwadi Party could put up an improved performance with 120 seats. In Uttarakhand too, the BJP gamble of changing the CM at the last minute appears to have paid off. The party won 43 seats. In Manipur too, the party won 31 seats, just the magic number needed to form the government.

As expected, the AAP has trounced the Congress and won 91 seats. Stalwarts like CM Charanjeet Singh Channi, PCC chief Navjot Siddhu, former CM Amarinder Singh, Akali Dal stalwart Sukhbir Singh Badal, general secretary Vikram Majithia were defeated fair and square.

The biggest loser in the elections is the Congress Party. It had put a very bad show in three of the five states. In Uttarakhand and Goa, the Congress was a shade better. The party is all but finished in the all-important Uttar Pradesh, where it is leading in only four seats. It lost all the seats in Amethi and Raebareli, the traditional Congress strongholds.
