Congress in Munugode: The bad news and the good news
X
The Congress in Telangana is pretty confident about one thing - that it cannot win Munugode. But, the happy news for the Congress is that the BJP is not going to win either. According to a Congress-sponsored survey, the TRS will win hands down in Munugode bypoll and the Congress, not the BJP would be the runner-up. The survey says that despite Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy's resignation from the party, its vote base is largely in tact.

Sources say that the Congress had commissioned a survey to know the actual ground position in Munugode, which will soon go to bypolls. Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, who is the sitting MLA, has left the Congress and resigned his post as MLA. The general feeling is that Rajagopal Reddy will take away all the Congress votes and along with them, the anti-TRS votes. Since he is going to contest as a BJP candidate, he would also get the BJP votes and thus go on to win the elections.

However, the Congress survey has shown that the Congress voter base is largely undented and that Rajagopal Reddy may not make much of an impact. Though the BJP is trying to get several key Congress leaders to join the BJP, it is not able to make any impression. The Congress leaders, who recently met Priyanka Gandhi apprised her about the survey results. The survey, commissioned by an impartial team, has said that the TRS will wrest the seat, while the Congress would stand second. The BJP, which is hoping to win hands down, would be pushed to the third position, the survey claimed.

The Congress feels that though it cannot win, pushing the BJP to the third position is no less an achievement. This will stop more Congress leaders from crossing over to the BJP. It also feels that the voters too will stick with the Congress Party. Many leaders reportedly suggested to Priyanka Gandhi that the party should put up a BC person as its candidate.
