Congress is friendless in its fight against BJP

Will the opposition Congress Party's attempts to cobble up a credible anti-BJP coalition ahead of the 2024 elections yield results? The indications are that the Congress may not be as successful as it wants to be. Several anti-BJP regional parties feel that the Congress cannot be the leader of the anti-BJP front.

Already strong regional parties like the Trinamool Congress Party, BRS, Laluprasad Yadav-led RJD and Nitish Kumar's JDU have clearly indicated that there would be no truck with the Congress Party. The latest to join the bandwagon is the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party. It has clearly said that there would be no alliance with the Congress in Uttar Pradesh.

The BSP and the AAP too have categorically said that they would not join hands with the Congress Party. The BJD of Odisha and the YSRCP have always been pro- BJP. So is the Akali Dal and the regional parties of Haryana. This leaves the Congress with only three credible allies – the DMK in Tamil Nadu, the NCP and Uddhav Thackeray in Maharashtra.

Though the Congress is putting on a brave front by claiming that no alliance would be successful in dislodging the BJP if the Congress is not part of it, it is clear that there are no allies for the Congress party. With such depleted strength, will it be in a position to take on a strong and resurgent Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2024 elections?
