Seniority Wins: Congress Picks Siddaramaiah As Chief Minister!
By: Tupaki Desk | 18 May 2023 1:58 PM GMTWho will be the Chief Minister of Karnataka between Siddaramaiah and DK Shivkumar is the question that popped up after the state elections. The two leaders are top contenders for the post and the Congress party faced a tough test with this. The suspense on the issue has been going on for a few days.
Before it gets too late, the Congress party worked on it and addressed the crisis. Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah was finally picked as the Chief Minister. Party troubleshooter DK Shiva Kumar would be the Deputy Chief Minister. A senior leader announced this and the oath-taking ceremony would be held soon.
KC Venugopal announced the news and said that Siddaramaiah will be the Chief Minister and Shivakumar will be only his deputy. He also said that a few Ministers would take oath along with the two. A few like-minded parties were invited to the ceremony.
"On May 20, at 12:30 pm, along with the CM and Deputy CM, a group of ministers will be sworn in. We are inviting like-minded parties to the swearing-in," KC Venugopal said announcing the news.
Congress party dealt with the crisis before it becomes too late and the senior leader was picked as the Chief Minister. Siddaramaiah is a senior leader and he also has the experience of running the state. His experience and seniority might have helped him get the seat.
On the other hand, DK Shiva Kumar who played a big role in the party’s landslide victory was also given good prominence by making him the sole deputy of the state. It might send a wrong message if the party appoints other leaders along with him in the post. The Congress leader completely avoided this and he was picked as the sole deputy.
During his tenure as the Chief Minister of Karnataka between 2013 to 2018, Siddaramaiah earned a good image and the state was on a good path as far as the development is concerned. The BCs and other communities were given good preference in the period and they are said to have voted for the Congress party in return in the recent polls. All these factors might have worked in his favor.
