Ippatam Controversy: Court Slaps Petitioners With One Lakh Fine!

Everyone knows the sensation the alleged demolition drive in Ippatam village of Andhra Pradesh has created. The issue took a political turn with the likes of Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan and Nara Lokesh visiting the village. Pawan Kalyan lashed out at the ruling party and even announced money for the victims of the drive.
Alleging that the government targeted the families which gave land for them to hold the Janasena meeting, Pawan Kalyan announced Rs 1 lakh each to the families. All of a sudden the issue took a big turn and it has now turned out that the petitioners in the case are wrong.
A few house owners in Ippatam moved the court earlier and got a stay order. But the twist is that they misled the High Court saying that they did not receive any notice despite the authorities serving them the notice. Now the owners corrected their words and through their lawyers, they informed the court.
Not happy with this, the High Court slapped the petitioners with a big fine of Rs 1 lakh each for misleading the court. Asking why action should not be taken against them in this regard the High Court of Andhra Pradesh directed the petitioners to be present in the next hearing directly.
The High Court heard a petition earlier today and slammed the petitioners for misleading them. Now the petitioners faced a big blow as the court directed them to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
The controversy goes back a few weeks when a few houses were reportedly demolished by the concerned authorities. The compound walls of a few houses were demolished as part of the road extension work. The owners of the properties reached the Court against this and got a stay order.
After the petitioners got a stay order in this, the Andhra Pradesh government moved the court challenging this. The case was heard today and the High Court found that the petitioners misled the court by alleging that they did not receive any notices from the authorities. For this, a big penalty was slapped against the petitioners.
