Ex-mumbai Top Cop Gets Protection From Supreme Court!
By: Tupaki Desk | 22 Nov 2021 11:22 AM GMTFormer Police boss of the Mumbai Police Param Bir Singh who was caught up in the extortion controversy got a major sigh of relief in the Supreme Court on Monday. In the orders, the Apex Court said that the ex-Mumbai police chief shall not be arrested in the case until further notice.
During the arguments in the case, the lawyer representing Param Bim Singh told the court that unlike what is being told on the media reports he is not missing or absconding and he is very much in the country only. Satisfied with this, the Supreme Court prevented Mr. Singh from getting arrested and directed him to join the investigation.
The lawyer even added that Param Bir Singh had no intention of absconding but his client has a threat from the Mumbai Police. He is facing a big threat that's the reason for him to not appear, the lawyer said.
Through his advocate, Param Bir Singh told the Supreme Court that he is suffering as cases were filed against him des[pite him being ready to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) court. The former police boss requested the Apex Court to grant permission for him.
When the Supreme Court had heard the petition for his protection last week, it had asked whether Param Bir Singh is abroad or in any other state in the country as he has not been seen anywhere. Saying that it needs to know where Singh is now to grant protection, the Supreme Court had turned down the petition.
Param Bir Singh had hit the headlines earlier when he had written to Maharashtra Chief Minister, Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray against the then State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh accusing him of extorting money and directing the cops to collect money from the restaurants and other entities.
