Now the former head coach of the Indian national cricket team Ravi Shastri is in the news for his comments on legalizing sports betting in the country. The 59-year-old said, by legalizing the betting activities, a lot of revenue can be generated and the officials can have a look into it.

Ravi Shastri spoke in favour of the legalization of betting activities in India when he was asked about his take on the same at a conference that was held by a leading media group. Taking the question, Ravi Shastri said he will support the legalization of the activities.

Quoting the examples of other countries that are eating the fruit of the betting legalization, the ex-coach opined that it would earn huge income and taxes for the government, and hence focus should be made on the issue.

Ravi Shastri further added that, when the authorities are trying their level best to deal with the activities with an iron fist, the fraudsters are going ahead in taking part in the activities through other ways.

Talking about the way the betting activities operate, Mr. Shastri said, the nature of the activities is that, how much we try to shut it down, it functions through alternative channels. When we can't stop it, at least we can make use of the revenue generated through it, he said.

The former Indian player also said that it is important that we should use this as a good way to use the taxes and income generated with the legalization of betting activities by doing it in an official manner.

Concluding his address, Ravi Shastri showered praises on the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) and said that since the past four decades, the cricket governing body has emerged as the most efficient board in world cricket. The cricket board is doing a phenomenal job, he added.
