Handover Jayalalithaa's Residence To Legal Heirs: Madras Hc!

Veteran actress, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu late J Jayalalithaa's niece and nephew who have been fighting against the proposal to make Jayalalithaa's residence into a memorial got a major sigh of relief. The Madras High Court had ruled out in favour of the duo in this matter.
The Madras High Court in its orders said that Jayalalithaa's residence belongs to her niece and nephew J Deepa and J Deepak. Having said that, the High Court also issued directives that within the next three weeks, the transfer of the property should be done. The responsibility of the transfer of the property was given to the Chennai collector by the court.
The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(AIADMK) party which was in power in Tamil Nadu during the previous regime had made the proposal to convert Jayalalithaa’s residence into a memorial. The announcement was made back in 2017 and a prescribed amount was also deposited by the govt at a court for the same.
However, the decision to make the residence a memorial was challenged by Jay Deepak and niece Jay Deepa, the legal heirs of Jayalalithaa. As the duo was declared the legal heirs of Jayalalithaa they knocked on the doors of the courts against the decision.
The petitions filed by the duo were heard by the Madras High Court. Justice N.Sesha Sai after hearing the petition ruled out in favour of the duo and said that the property named Veda Nilayam should be given to the petitioners. In the same order, the Madras High Court had directed the Income Tax Department officials to see if there were any pending taxes from Jayalalithaa. The same would be collected from her niece and nephew.
Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalithaa, who established herself as a prominent leader had breathed her last in December 2016. Prolonged illness was the reason behind Jayalalithaa's death. She passed away at the Apollo Hospitals in Chennai while undergoing treatment at the facility.
Post her death, there was a big void in state politics. Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam agreed that they would lead the party without any issues.
