Ravi Sinha, a senior IPS officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre was appointed as the new chief of the prestigious Research and Analysis Wing(RAW). The serving RAW chief Samant Kumar Goel is going to retire from his position and his tenure will come to an end by the 30th of June. Ravi Sinha will replace him.

Yes, the 1988 Batch IPS Officer Ravi Sinha was appointed as the Chief of the Intelligence Group Research and Analysis Wing(RAW). The Committee of Union Ministers on Appointments gave its nod for the appointment.

Following this, the Union government issued appointment orders. Sinha who is currently serving as the special secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat will have a tenure of 2 years as RAW chief.

Ravi has been serving as the head of the operational wing in RAW for the past seven years. He completed his studies from the prestigious St Stephen's College in the national capital Delhi. Talking about RAW, Research and Analysis Wing is India's intelligence agency. It was created to keep a better tab on foreign nations after the Indo-China War in 1962 and the Indo-Pak War in 1965. RAW was made a separate agency in 1968 September from the Intelligence Bureau.

Intelligence Bureau's failure got highlighted in the 1962 Indo-China War and the 1965 Indo-Pak War. Strong measures were taken after 1966 to have a dedicated intelligence agency.
