Is This Why Sarfaraz Missed West Indies Tour?
By: Tupaki Desk | 26 Jun 2023 11:44 AM GMTMumbai cricketer Sarfaraz who is in good form was ignored for the West Indies tour which led to severe criticism. Critics also allege that the BCCI is against the player and that's why he is not getting any chance. Amid this, a popular media house quoted a key official from BCCI as saying the reason behind ignoring Sarfaraz. He mentioned a few key aspects.
Team India is scheduled to tour West Indies from July 12 to August 13. As part of this, India and West Indies will lock horns for two tests, three ODIs, and five T20s. In the final squad, Sarfaraz was not mentioned. BCCI picking Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal who shined in IPL, over Srafaraz who is playing domestic cricket became controversial.
Looking at the potential of Sarfaraz, he has been shining in the last three Ranji seasons. The Mumbai player has an average of 80 percent in first-class cricket. He scored a triple ton(301) in a match and in the last three Ranjis, he scored 2655 runs. Despite this, why was he not picked for Team India? This is the question here.
Speaking to the media, a key official from the BCCI made some critical comments on Sarfaraz's fitness. Saying that they can understand the criticism for not picking Sarfaraz, the official maintained that there are a few reasons for not picking him."Are selectors fools to ignore a player who scored 900 runs in consecutive seasons? Sarfaraz's fitness is not on par with international cricket. This is one of the reasons for not selecting him. He has to work on his fitness and lose weight. He has to do more hard work. Only battings heroics are not considered for picking a batter, a player's fitness is also considered. His behavior on and off the field is not that great. The emotions he displays during the matches are objectionable and he needs more discipline," he said.
Amid this, netizens are sharing videos of Sarfaraz displaying his emotions. A few say that slapping his thigh and showing his finger is not good. Now we have to wait and see how Sarfaraz who is shining with his bat will have better chances of getting selected if he rectifies his minus points.
