Jagan's Strange Logic Behind Naming University After YSR!
By: Tupaki Desk | 21 Sep 2022 9:57 AM GMTThe controversy surrounding the name change of NTR Health University to YSR Health University has reached the Andhra Pradesh Assembly now. The ruling party tabled the bill which seeks the name change and given the majority the YSRCP enjoys in the house, the bill was passed amid slogans from the Telugu Desam Party members.
Talking about the decision, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy gave a strange analysis to back his move. He credited his father YSR for bringing many initiatives in the health sector which benefitted the poor and that's why he decided to name the Univesity of YSR.
Jagan said, during his father's regime three medical collges were set up and he brought good initiatives like Aarogyasri and 108 services and he felt it would be appropriate to change the name after the former Chief Minister.
Jagan's strange logic makes no sense. If bringing initiatives is the criteria to name the University after YSR, then it should be named after Satyam Ramalinga Raju as he started the initiative of ambulance services 108. Inspired by 911 emergency services in the US, Raju came up with the idea of ambulance services.
But YSR got the credit and Jagan is citing the ambulance services as a reason behind changing the university name. On top of this, the Chief Minister said that his father is a doctor by profession before he became the Chief Minister and understands the difficulties faced by the poor.
If taking initiatives for the poor is the parameter for changing the name of the University, then there are many Chief Ministers who took many initiatives. Keep NTR's name aside, the likes of Neelam Sanjiva Reddy, Damodaram Sanjivayya, and Jalagam Vengala Rao started many initiatives to benefit the poor. But Jagan choose his father's name.
Jagan spoke highly about his father for bringing medical colleges as if the other Chief Ministers did not bring any medical colleges. Though NTR planned and constructed the Health University, Jagan ignored the facts and said he took this decision after a lot of thought and brainstorming. The analysis Jagan mentioned on this has some lapses.
