After bidding farewell to NV Ramana, the Supreme Court has welcomed its new Chief Justice. Sri Uday Umesh Lalit has taken oath as the 49th Chief Justice of India. President of India Smt. Draupadi Murmu made him take the oath.

Lalit was born in Sholapur of Maharashtra and his father Ranganath Lalit was also a lawyer and became an additional judge of the Nagpur bench in Bombay High Court. Uday Umesh Lait graduated from Government Law College in Mumbai and became a lawyer in June 1983. He practiced law in Bombay High Court till December 1985.

He immediately started practicing law in Supreme Court and became a Judge in Supreme Court on 13th August 2014. He played a crucial role in many key cases in the country. Uday Umesh Lalit will be serving as the Chief Justice Of India till he is 65 years old. This means, he will be the CJI till November and it is not more than 74 days.
