Larger game-plan behind Lagadapatis moves?

If one thought that the YSRCP has forsaken the Kamma community, think again!! Kodali Nani may be out as a minister, but his importance has not diminished in the least. He is as active as he used to be as a minister and is continuing to go ballistic on the TDP. But there are other indications that the YSRCP is courting the Kamma community.

Why has Lagadapati, who was long in political hibernation, become so active once again? Sources say this is part of the YSRCP's Kamma outreach. YS Jagan wants new Kamma leaders to come into the YSRCP. By bringing in reputed Kammas into the party, he wants to weaken the TDP on one hand and remove the anti-Kamma blot on the YSRCP. Sources say that Vasanta Krishna Prasad has been tasked to talk to the Kamma influencers in the state.

Lagadapati has taken political sanyasa after united AP was bifurcated into residual Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. He has opposed the bifurcation and remained in hibernation for nearly 10 years. Now, he has become active again. There is a buzz that he would contest as the MP candidate of the YSRCP from Vijayawada. Thus, he would replace Potluri, another Kamma, who contested on the YSRCP ticket in 2019.

Highly placed sources say that more Kamma leaders are likely to join the YSRCP in the days to come. This strategy of YS Jagan is quite similar to that of late YSR, who managed to rope in several Kamma politicians and made them contest on the Congress ticket in the 2009 elections. He managed to get the Kavuris, Gallas and Rayapatis into the party.

The idea was to break the TDP hegemony on the Kamma community. It did succeed in 2009, but post YSR's death, the gains were floundered and the Congress Party lost the plot. Will Jagan too succeed like his father succeeded? Let's wait and watch how things unfold.
