Covid Diaries:125 out of 175 passengers tested positive at Airport

In a shocking incident, more than 100 passengers who reached Amritsar from Italy in an international air carrier were found positive for the virus on Thursday. The new infections were detected at the Amritsar airport today as part of the Covid detection tests which are mandatory for all air passengers.
The authorities at the Amritsar airport said that 175 passengers traveled in a chartered flight from Italy and landed in Punjab today and when tested, 125 out of the 175 passengers were declared positive for the virus.
Going by the existing protocols, the concerned authorities have swung into action and sent the air passengers who tested positive for the Covid pandemic to the quarantine facilities and the required measures are being followed.
It is also said that the other passengers were also sent to the mandatory quarantine facility. Though the new infections were detected at the airport, there is no information on whether the infections were triggered by the Coronavirus or the Omicron variant of the deadly pandemic. More details in this regard are awaited.
After the new infections were detected media reports were abuzz that the air carrier belongs to Air India. With the information getting stranger, Air India had stepped in and cleared the airs. The air carrier said all the information is wrong.
"Several Media houses have reported that Passengers of Air India flight from Rome to Amritsar have been tested covid positive. This is wrong and baseless. Air India doesn't operate any flight from Rome currently," Air India's tweet reads.
A few restrictions are already in place in Punjab amid the rise in infections. The educational institutions have been closed as a precautionary measure while the public movement has also been restricted.
After chairing a key meeting with the concerned officials, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi issued directives that a new set of restrictions will be imposed in the state to curb the fresh infections.
Looking at the country's scenario, India logged more than 90,000 fresh Coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours. The big surge in the single-day infections was reported a day after reporting more than 58,000 Coronavirus infections.
