As a precautionary measure, a few states Maharashtra, Karnataka, the National capital Delhi, and others banned New Year celebrations and imposed a few restrictions to curb new infections.

Liquor can be sold at bars, events on December 31st and January 1st. A Government Order in this regard was also released.
The orders that were issued in the name of the Telangana Chief Secretary said that the liquor stalls can run the business till midnight on December 31st. To pave the way for liquor sales, the existing rules have been eased by the state government.
It has to be noted that, Telangana is one of the impacted states with the Omicron variant as not less than 62 patients were infected with the new virus.

In the wake of the Omicron scare, the Telangana High Court had earlier directed the state government to impose restrictions on the public gathering and other gatherings as the situation is turning problematic.
While directing the Telangana government to focus on restricting the public gatherings amid the Omicron fear, the High Court also said that special focus should also be given on ramping up the facilities to search passengers coming from other states so that the virus is not spread further.
Going by the court directives, all the rallies and meetings have been banned in Telangana till the 2nd of January by the government. However, the state government issued a new order which permits the sale of the liquor on the eve of New Year and the Telangana Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) has also been asked to permit the licenses for the same.
