The nation faced two back-to-back deadly waves and millions of people came in contact with the virus and lakhs of people passed away.
It appears that America will not have relief any time soon. Two months into the new year, America faced another problem as a bacteria is ringing danger bells and the infections caused by the bacteria are increasing exponentially. This made the concerned authorities there to warn people about this.
The shigella bacteria caused by a stomach bug is infecting more and more people in the United States and the cases are on a rise. Given the big spike in the cases, the authorities are warning people to be more cautious and stay alert.
Medical experts say that the bacteria causes fever, diarrhea, and stomach pain in the affected people. The bacteria is caused by a stomach bug. On top of rising cases at an alarming rate, the bacteria is also said to have resistance to drugs.
Medication is the way to treat any bacteria or virus. But the Shigella bacteria which is dubbed as a serious threat has resistance towards drugs making it a tough one to deal with. As a safety measure, the health authorities urged people to be cautious about what they eat and drink. It is said that eating contaminated water and food causes bacteria.
The national public agency of the United States, the Center for Disease and Control Prevention (CDC) issued an advisory to the people and said that the bacteria is ringing dangerous bells and urged everyone to be safe and cautious.
Though the Shigella bacteria account for lakhs of infections every year since 2015, from the year it was detected, things are worse now as the CDC had to step in to direct the citizens to take precautions. "Shigella causes an estimated 450,000 infections in the United States each year and an estimated $93 million in direct medical costs," the health body said.
