When the scary situation triggered by the Coronavirus seemed to be under control, the world faced a big threat with the new Coronavirus variant Omicron which was detected by the experts and scientists in South Africa. Along with the other countries, India is also fearing the newly detected variant of the Coronavirus. The number of infections caused by the variant is increasing in the country steadily.

Well if these developments are not enough to scare us, a top medical expert in India has warned that the new variant has the potential to trigger the third wave in India. The expert opined that the high rate of transmission should be a big concern for the country.

Executive Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bibinagar, Dr. Vikas Bhatia said that the new variant comes with a less fatal rate compared to the other variants. We cannot make more predictions on this right now as we have less information on this. Despite a few countries reporting the cases, we don’t have more details, he said.

It is a crucial situation for India as it's high time for us to strictly follow the Covid protocols without fail. If the Covid guard is let down, then we might go through a crisis-like situation once again. While the first wave of Covid is a disaster, the second wave of Covid emerged due to our negligence.

Looking at the emergence of Omicron in India, it took less than one week to reach the double-figure. While the first cases of Omicron were reported last week, now the case count has gone up to 21. Initially, two cases were reported in Karnataka and slowly the case count kept on increasing and a few more states reported new cases.

Rajasthan is now accountable for the highest cases of Omicron in a state with nine, followed by Maharashtra, Karnataka with eight and two cases respectively. National capital Delhi and Gujarat reported one each case.

As part of the precautionary measures, the Union government had asked the state governments to ramp up the testing facilities at the airports to check the air passengers coming from the other nations.
