Not just devotionally, Tirupati has a greater relevance politically as well. As famous personalities visit the holy shrine regularly, the MLA would get their contacts increasing their stature. Who doesn’t want to enjoy a good stature?
All these factors are in the news now as there is a political debate that Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan reportedly wants to contest the MLA elections here. Janasena had taken the upcoming elections prestigious and it is not leaving any stone unturned in this regard.
The party is in alliance with BJP and also sending indications that it is open to joining hands with the Telugu Desam Party. Pawan Kalyan went to the national capital Delhi recently to meet a Union Minister.
Looking at the dynamics of the Tirupati Assembly seat. The region has around 2,70,762 voters and the Balija community enjoys a strong presence there. All these factors are said to have forced the Jana Sena chief to look at the Assembly constituency to contest.
Earlier TDP founder Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao and Chiranjeevi contested the polls and emerged victorious. Two great personalities from films who ventured into politics won the elections there and this sentiment is also favoring Janasena. Pawan lost two seats he contested and reportedly wants to change his seat. So Tirupati appeared in front of him.
Despite losing the seats in 2019, the Janasena candidate got a good share of votes which is a positive aspect of the party. If Pawan Kalyan contests there then we might see Pawan winning the seat.
A few media reports say that Pawan Kalyan is preferring the temple city to enter the Assembly. If everything goes well then Pawan Kalyan might enter the Assembly as an MLA. This is the wish of Pawan fans and Jana Sena supporters. They hoped that this would happen in 2019. But things turned out differently.
As the elections are one year from now, Janasena is taking care of various things and Pawan Kalyan might try his luck from the temple city for the next general elections.
Looking at the other parties, the YCP candidate won the elections. YCP’s Bhumana Karunakar Reddy is the serving MLA and he tasted victory with a small margin of 700. TDP candidate Sugunamma lost the elections with over 700 votes. So it was a tough fight. Many say that the Jagan wave helped the YCP MLA win the polls and there is no assurance on what happens next time.
There is confusion in TDP and YCP on who would run the polls from there. While TDP is yet to confirm the candidate, the same is the case with YCP. Karunakar Reddy wants to get his son Bhumana Abhinay Reddy a ticket and the leadership is yet to take a call.
