Rahul, Sonia on a foreign trip ahead of crucial padayatra
By: Tupaki Desk | 24 Aug 2022 6:33 AM GMTIn just about 15 days, the Congress Party is set to launch its biggest public outreach programme â the ambitious Bharat Jodo Yatra. The Yatra will begin from the friendly state of Tamil Nadu's and will end in Kashmir, where it will get the support of the regional parties like the National Conference. Starting at Kanyakumari on September 7, the yatra would focus on communalism and price rise.
Even as preparations for the yatra are on, both party chief Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi have left for a foreign tour. The destination of the Gandhis has not been revealed. But sources say that there would be health checkups for Sonia Gandhi, who may have to adopt a more active role during the yatra. Sources also say that Rahul may undergo some coaching in the art of public speech and brand-building during this period.
The party hopes to take the help of several NGOs and civil society organisations which are opposed to the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A special team has been constituted to process the petitions and complaints reached during the padayatra. There would be daily reviews of the progress of the padayatra and the public response.
If Congress sources are to be believed, Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi too would address key rallies organised as part of the yatra. Priyanka Gandhi would monitor the progress of the yatra from Dehi. Several senior Congress leaders too have been given key responsibilities during the Bharat Jodo yatra, according to the party sources.
