RGV dubs ongoing Hijab controversy as districting
By: Tupaki Desk | 10 Feb 2022 11:57 AM GMTThe ongoing Hijab controversy is undoubtedly the biggest issue in the country right now. Right from activists to politicians, everyone is reacting to the issue. Forget about others, even Prime Minister Narendra Modi had responded to the issue and said that outside factors might get involved in this.
The list of people who are responding to the issue is getting bigger and bigger. The list got a new member in the form of maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma. Taking to social media, the 'Killing Veerappan' director gave his opinion on the Hijab controversy.
Responding to the issue, Ram Gopal Varma said that, Niqab is not a basis for Islam and expressed and cited the example of how a cleric had supported the decision taken by France to ban the hijab.
In a typical RGV fashion, he had opined that weaponising dresses is the larger issue in the hijab controversy and said that the issue got added to the confrontational aspects list between the communities.
Ram Gopal Varma said that putting a special focus on a particular dress like hijab might be discriminatory. However, Ram Gopal Varma dubbed the issue distracting as it also raises a question of the faith should be practiced privately.
"Zeroing in on a particular dress like hijab does seem discriminatory but at the same time it's also true that standing out might become distracting ,bringing forth the question whether faith should be only privately practiced and not advertised," Ram Gopal Varma said.
"When France banned hijab Abdel Muti al-Bayyumi,a highly respected cleric supported the ban and stated "The niqab has no basis in Islam. I used to feel dismayed when I saw some of the sisters (in France) wearing the niqab. This does not give a good impression on Islam" the maverick filmmaker said in one of his tweets.
"The uniform does unify atleast on a visual aspect but it can also be argued that it conceals the true nature of the student because what one chooses to wear is a self expression, and that should be a fundamental right in a democracy," Amma Rajyam Lo Kadapa Biddalu directed added.
