Sec 144 Comes Into Place In Mumbai, Amidst Omicron Fear!

At the time when the novel Coronavirus entered India, Maharashtra was severely impacted by the virus outbreak as the state accounted for the highest number of infections and the casualties triggered by the respiratory disease. Now the state is dealing with another threat.
The Omicron variant of Covid which is ringing danger bells across the globe has made its way to India and the infections caused by the newly detected virus variant are on a rise in the country. To see that the situation gets under control, the Mumbai Police department had issued new orders at the public gathering.
Keeping the existing situation in mind, the Police Department said that Section 144 will be in place within the jurisdiction of the Mumbai Commissionerate for 48 hours and the public gatherings will not be allowed. The restrictions apply to the rallies and marches too.
As per the information, the restrictions that prevent people from gathering in big numbers were issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) that will be active till midnight of Sunday. Given the fact that the cases in the state are increasing steadily, new restrictions were introduced.
One more reason behind bringing the restrictions is to see that no unwanted situation will take place as it happened in Amravati and Nanded. The department is hoping that by imposing the restrictions the gatherings can be restricted and thus the scope of the virus transmission can be cut short.
The situation had turned tense in Maharashtra after the Omicron infections in the state rose to 17. The infections count increased at once after seven fresh cases were detected by the state health department officials. The state capital Mumbai reported three cases, while Pune reported four fresh cases. The four new infections include a three-and-half-year-old child, who came in contact with the already infected person. The infected people were shifted to facilities for treatment.
Looking at the overall Coronavirus infections in Maharashtra, the case toll went up to 66,42,372, after 695 fresh infections were detected in the state in the span of the last 24 hours. The active cases count stood at 6,534.
