Senior BJP Leader's Journey:Councilor To Two-time Chief Minister!
By: Tupaki Desk | 12 Dec 2022 9:58 AM GMTThe star leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party from various states gathered together today on the eve of the oath-taking ceremony in Gujarat. The Party which won the polls with a record majority in recent polls formed the government and the legislators including Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel took oath today.
The 60-year-old leader took oath as the Chief Minister for the second consecutive term. Bhupendrabhai Patel is a Civil Engineering graduate and a builder by profession. He has a long-time association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He has an inspirational journey from a councilor to MLA to a two-time Chief Minister.
His political career started as a member of the Municipality. In the late 90s, Bhupendrabhai Patel served as a member of Memnagar Nagarpalika a few times and then became the President of the same Nagarpalika for one year. Between 2010 to 2015 he was the councilor from Thaltej.
After the Municipal body, the senior BJP leader focused on the Assembly elections and contested the elections from the Ghatlodia Assembly constituency in the 2017 polls. It was the same year when the state went for the general polls last time. He was one of the winning candidates from the BJP.
The issues in Gujarat BJP and other equations worked well for Mr. Patel. The BJP faced the wrath of the Patidar community in the 2017 polls and it was reflected in the seats BJP won. Keeping this in mind he was given a chance and made the Chief Minister.
BJP took a daring decision and made first-time MLA Bhupendrabhai Patel the Chief Minister. The daring decision made wonders for the saffron party and it recorded a big win in recent times.
The 2022 general elections in Gujarat saw the BJP completely dominating the elections. Patel took the party towards a thumping victory. He even recorded a bigger win in elections than Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During Modi's rule, BJP won 127 seats. Patel broke it with a big margin and won 156 seats.
The Patidar community is one of the big communities in many states including Gujarat. As the community is into agriculture-based activities it is one of the dominant communities. Coming from the same community might have worked for Bhupendrabhai Patel as he became the fifth member of the community to become the Gujarat Chief Minister.
