Senior IAS's Controversial Answer on Sanitary Pads!

The intention behind setting up the Women Development Corporation is to empower and help women to live in a peaceful atmosphere. The body aims at giving the needed directions and lending a helping hand to women from various walks. That is the reason why women hold all the key positions in the body for a better understanding of the situation and problems.

But the Managing Director of the Women Development Corporation (WDC) from Bihar stunned everyone with her objectionable answer to a question asked by girl students. Her comments kickstarted a big controversy in Bihar as many wondered as how the WD C Managing Director can pass such comments.

The Bihar government and Humanitarian aid organization UNICEF organised an event titled Sashakt Beti, Samriddh Bihar. The workshop was held to say how the state can progress if girls are empowered. But the event saw a senior IAS giving a harsh reply to girl students with a strong tone.

During the workshop, the girl students asked if the government can provide sanitary pads to girls at less cost. The girl student’s question made the audience go wild and they gave big applause for her question. But Bihar Women and Children Development Corporation MD Harjot Kaur Bamhrah was not impressed with her question.

The IAS officer felt that the students are asking for endless demands. She said that they will next ask for jeans, pants, and then, beautiful shoes, and condoms too.

"When it comes to family planning, will the government give condoms (Nirodh) to you. Why would I have a habit of taking everything free from the government? What is the need of it?" the senior IAS officer said.

Sanitary Pads are a basic thing for girls and women. The concerned authorities should focus more on giving sanitary pads to students than cycles and other things. All girl students might not need the cycles. But every girl will be in need of sanitary pads.

Girls and women coming from financially poor families cannot afford sanitary pads as a few companies sell pads at high prices. The government should distribute the pads to women every month. But the IAS did not get that despite being a woman.
