TDP loses initiative after a good start
By: Tupaki Desk | 10 July 2023 11:02 PM ISTJust a few months ago, things looked quite bright for the TDP. It had won a couple of the Graduate MLC seats. Then it managed to defeat the YSRCP plans and went on to win an MLC seat by ensuring that some YSRCP MLAs cross-vote. There was a feeling that the vintage Chandrababu Naidu was back in full form.
But, soon things began to fall apart and the party has shown that it did not in any way improve its position. The YSRCP counter offensive began in the form of various outreach programmes. Jagan too began reaching out to the voters. The TDP was back to square one. It fell back on Chandrababu alone.
Though Lokesh managed to launch his padayatra, he could not brighten the party prospects. Even the party's campaign failed to take off. It has become clear that the party leaders were not ready to spend money for the campaign unless they were guaranteed a party ticket. As if this was not enough, Chandrababu became totally focused on improving the image of his son Lokesh Babu.
If party insiders are to be believed, the party has lost steam in twin Godavari districts, Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam districts. Though the TDP has managed to retain some punch in Rayalaseema, it appears to have lost the initiative in coastal districts. In north coastal Andhra, strong leaders like Atchen Naidu are still able to work some magic, but in the rest of the state, the party appears to have failed to seize the opportunity.
