TDP refuses to learn from its mistakes
By: Tupaki Desk | 7 March 2023 5:56 PM ISTHas the TDP learnt any lessons from its humiliating defeat in the2019 elections? It appears the party is refusing to do some serious soul searching. As a result, the party is finding that it is unable to get over the defeat and search for the real reasons for the debacle. This makes one wonder if the party is serious in making a course correction.
The TDP still seems to blindly believe that slamming the ruling party is the only way to get the votes. By any standards, the recent investors summit in Vizag was a great success. The investments and the participation of the industry biggies is proof enough of it. However, the TDP is still refusing to acknowledge its success. It seems to believe that criticism of the YSRCP on the caste, community and regional lines will help the TDP.
The TDP is yet to conduct a detailed analysis of the reasons for its 2019 defeat. Out of the 53 seats in the Rayalaseema, the party could win just three seats. The party has been roundly defeated in 11 of the 29 SC reserved constituencies consecutively in 2009, 2014 and 2019 elections. Not just that. There are 50 assembly constituencies, where the TDP had never won so far.
In case of the ST seats, the party could win just one seat in the 2009 and 2014 elections. In the 2019 elections, it was a complete whitewash as the party failed to win even a single ST reserved seat. The TDP has also not realised that the BCs have moved away from it. Instead of taking remedial measures, the party is still believing in old and worn-out strategies. It is time the party realises this and does a realistic assessment of the situation in the state.
