Telangana Turns 10, Important Moments In State Formation!

The bill passed by the then Union government led by the grand old Congress party on On June 2nd, 2014 made Telangana a state which is the youngest in the country.
The demand to have a special state for Telangana on the grounds of culture, and dialects is not new and the seeds were planted for this when Andhra Pradesh was formed after bifurcating from Madras. Since then there are a few instances where the movement saw momentum.
A gentlemen's agreement was made between Telangana leaders and Andhra leaders in 1956 when Andhra Pradesh was formed, including the Hyderabad state that Telangana people will not be discriminated against in any manner and no issues would be created. However, things did not go as planned and issues started popping up regularly.
Between 1969 to 2009 many movements and fights took place for the special state. Even a few Chief Ministers took part and backed the movement. Since the early 2000s the movement again saw a big momentum and this time even people also took part in the movement. There was an active participation from the people.
In 2009, the Union Government announced that the process of forming Telangana was started. However, this led to violent protests in Rayalaseema and Andhra regions as they are not happy with this. As a result, the process was delayed and Telangana people are not happy with this.
In 2001, a party named Telangana Rashtra Samithi was formed with KCR as the chief. The party name indicates its agenda which is the special state. He was with the TDP earlier and even served as the deputy Assembly speaker. He resigned from the party and played a big role in the state formation. He sat on a hunger strike and Congress announced Telangana with Hyderabad city.
