The South African variant of the novel Coronavirus which is dubbed as the Omicron variant of the novel Coronavirus that had driven the surge in the fresh infections in the United Kingdom has now created an alert situation in the superpower nation United States. The reason for this is that the major share of fresh infections detected in the country was triggered by the Omicron variant.

The situation in the United States had changed at once with the emergence of the virus. As per the information shared by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the infections caused by the Omicron variant are accountable for more than 73 percent of the total cases recorded in the previous week.

The United States's health agency said that as many as 73.2 percent of Omicron cases were detected in the last week. Compared to the second week, the case percentage saw a rise of 12.6 percent. Things went upside down in the nation in the last three weeks.

During the early days of December, only a mere 0.7 percent of Omicron cases were detected. Cut to the third week, 73.2 percent of Omicron cases were detected. The concerned authorities are on high alert looking at the prevailing situations in the nation.

It took just 18 days for the Omicron variant of Coronavirus to spread to not less than 48 states in the United States. California was the first United States state to have reported the Omicron variant infections. But now close to half-century states have also reported Omicron cases.

As a result of the Omicron emergence in the United States, the fresh infections and the hospitalizations triggered by it are increasing at an unprecedented rate. Swinging into action, the concerned authorities have said that in the wake of the pandemic scare, the sports events and other events would be canceled.

Several states in the country have been witnessing the hike in Coronavirus infections and casualties. The festive season and the gatherings are said to be the reason behind the virus transmission. With Christmas coming in a few days, the situation might get even worse as per the experts.
