The Omicron variant triggered Coronavirus infections are on a rise in the country with a few states being accountable for a major share of the infections. Telangana is one of the severely-hit states with Omicron. As per the official data, no less than 62 people were infected with the new Coronavirus variant.

Amid a steady rise in the Omicron infections, Telangana State's Director of Public Health said that the third wave has started and the coming two to four weeks are crucial. In the next wave triggered by Omicron, we will see more and more infections compared to the previous waves given the high transmission rate of the variant, Dr. Srinivas Rao said.

However, the Director said that the third wave was in the early phase and learning from the previous waves and safety precautions should be followed without fail. Following the rules is the only way that should not be skipped.

Calling the jump in the new infections in the last couple of days is a signal that the third wave of the virus is at the starting stage and seeing this as a warning, we should be more cautious.

With the festive season, New Year, and Sankranthi fast approaching, the Director said that there is a need for the people to up the Covid shield and not take the Covid situation for granted.

On Thursday, the Health Director addressed the media on the pandemic situation and said that taking the required precautions is the need of the hour and this should be kept in mind.

To give details on how the government is handling the situation, the Health Director said that the situation is being monitored by the government and the required arrangements have been made. The government is doing its part and as the public part, they should take the Covid test if they develop any symptoms.

Citing the New Year celebrations and Sankranthi as a reason, the Health Director said that people will gather in large numbers on the two occasions, and hence there is a scope for the Covid infections to see a big jump.
