What Is The Divorce Rates Stand Across The Nations?

The other day, the Supreme Court of India made some crucial comments on the procedure of divorce and said that under special conditions the procedure of mandatory six months can be done away to grant divorce and the Supreme Court can use its vast powers for this. Since then a debate has been going on about the orders.

Amid this, a popular firm announced the divorce rates in various nations. India has less divorce rate of just one percent. Spain and Portugal have the highest divorce rates with 85 and 94 percent respectively. The report was filed after gathering data from more than 30 nations across the globe.

The World of Statistics website which shares information on various issues with statistics shared data on the divorce rates in many nations. However, the data can be misleading as the data is specified to one year. To keep this in simple terms, Portugal has a 91 percent of divorce rate and the rate should be seen for the concerned year and not should be seen as overall divorce rate.

Divorce rate:

India: 1%

Vietnam: 7%

Tajikistan: 10%

Iran: 14%

Mexico: 17%

Egypt: 17%

South Africa: 17%

Brazil: 21%

Turkey: 25%

Colombia: 30%

Poland: 33%

Japan: 35%

Germany: 38%

United Kingdom: 41%

New Zealand: 41%

Australia: 43%

China: 44%

United States: 45%

South Korea: 46%

Denmark: 46%

Italy: 46%

Canada: 47%

Netherlands: 48%

Sweden: 50%

France: 51%

Belgium: 53%

Finland: 55%

Cuba: 55%

Ukraine: 70%

Russia: 73%

Luxembourg: 79%

Spain: 85%

Portugal: 94%

Many wonder how India has the less percentage despite its huge population. But the data is restricted to just 2022 year and not the overall rate. The data is dependent on the marriages that happened in the concerned nations and out of them how many marriages ended up as divorces.

But the thing is that many nations recorded high divorce rates despite few marriages happening in one year. On the other hand, India reported just one percent of the divorce rate. The social norms and family norms should be mentioned here. When a couple wants to go for a divorce their families try their level best to stop them and we see this very rarely in the West.
