What Made AP Govt Change Opinion on Amaravati Capital?

The much-talked-about Amaravati capital issue is getting more and more interesting with each passing day. After a long fight of more than two years, the Amaravati farmers got a big relief as the High Court of Andhra Pradesh ruled out saying that the capital should come to Amaravati and the lands should be given to the farmers after development along with the basic facilities.

The Andhra Pradesh government which wants three capitals for decentralization of development has finally changed its stand and started the development works in the region. Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority Commissioner started the works earlier last week

Not just starting the development works, the government through its counsel even submitted a status report on how the works are going on in the region and after looking at the report, the bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court will give its verdict.

The Amaravati issue was taken to the High Court by the farmers in the region who were not happy with the state government for not implementing the orders issued by the court on developing the capital region and handing over the plots to the farmers who gave their lands for the capital city in the proposed area.

The Andhra Pradesh government led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy which tried its best to have three capitals for overall development for the state also changed its mind. However, it said the development works will be done in a phased manner and the same was started earlier this week.

YSRCP's strict stand on having three capitals brought a bad image among people in Amravati and the Krishna district, the region which would get benefited if the capital comes there. Looks like the YCP wants the status quo of people's opinion on YCP in Amravati and neighboring regions.

On the other hand, by starting the development works, the Andhra Pradesh government also wants to escape the anger of the High Court. The Andhra government had a tough time with the courts on various issues. Constructing a capital is a time taking process and the YCP wants to bank on it.
