Why every party loves Khammam?
By: Tupaki Desk | 14 Jan 2023 4:50 AM GMTThe border district of Khammam is suddenly in the news. Almost every party appears to be focusing on this district, which is seen as a bridge between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The chief reason for this is that whatever happens in Khammam will surely have its impact on neighbouring Andhra Pradesh as the people of this district largely have links to both the states.
First it was the TDP. The party wanted to make a comeback in Telangana and also prove that it has the ability to draw huge crowds. So, TDP chose Khammam for organising a public meeting. Crowds were mobilised from both the states. The TDP leaders from Krishna district ensured that the turnout was quite good. Thus Khammam became a launch pad for TDP's ambitions in both the states.
Now the TRS is holding its public meeting in Khammam. The party is the weakest in this district. It could win only one seat on its own in Khammam. The other MLAs now in its kitty are defectors from both the Congress and the TDP. Now the party wants to ensure that the public meeting is a huge success. The party has deputed two ministers, including Talasani Srinivas Yadav to mobilise the crowds from coastal Andhra. KCR wants to show that the BRS has a significant presence in AP too. Already leaders like Thota Chandrasekhar and Ravela Kishore are working to mobilise the crowds from Andhra region.
The BJP too is focusing on Khammam. Its strategist Sunil Bansal had held a special meeting with the BJPleaders of Khammam and asked them to strengthen the party's outreach in the district. It is also wooing former MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy to join the party. Ponguleti is likely to bring at least three ex-MLAs and a former ZP chief into the BJP. The only party that does not seem to have any plan as of now for Khammam is the ongress Party.
