Will sitting MLAs allow Anam to enter into Nellore politics?

One senior politician, who had his time under the sun and is now facing an uncertain political future in Nellore district is former finance minister Anam Ramnarayna Reddy. Ahead of 2019 elections, Anam joined the YSRCP and contested from Venkatagiri constituency. Though Anam has considerable hold in Nellore town, the YSRCP fielded him from neighbouring Venkatagiri.

In the latest district reorganization, Venkatagiri constituency has seen considerable gerrymandering. Now three of the mandals in the constituency are from Chittoor district. As a result, he would be forced to focus on Chittoor district, which is not his home turf. He would also lose contact with Nellore town and Nellore rural constituencies.

So, Anam is said to be desperate about reentering Nellore city and contest from there in the 2024 elections. There is another reason why he wants to move out of Venkatagiri. Ramakrishna, the defeated TDP candidate, has focused on Venkatagiri. He has started Anna Canteens on his own and has taken up several activities. So, the going will be tough for Anam in Venkatagiri. This is another reason why he is looking towards Nellore urban, say political watchers.

Anam, according to sources, is also apprehensive that he would lose his support base in Nellore and would become a nobody in the district headquarters town. So, he is desperate to make a re-entry into Nellore city politics. But with leaders like Ravikumar and Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy firmly in the saddle in Nellore town, will Anam’s plans bear fruit? Let’s wait and see how things unfold.
