YSRCP, TDP spar over survey on AP CMs performance
X
Opinion moulding is the name of the game in politics these days. The parties are going in for image-building big time. They are using surveys, opinion polls and special reports in the media to create political perceptions. The latest in this game is a survey on the performance of the chief ministers across the country. The survey has ranked the 25 chief ministers in the country on the basis of chosen indicators of their performance.

While there is little dispute over the fact that the survey has ranked Odisha's CM Naveen Patnaik first, the problem is with the ranking of AP chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The survey, by Centre for National Studies, has ranked YS Jagan 20th among the 25 CMs. The survey has put KCR, which is facing heavy incumbency, at 11th.

The YSRCP strongly feels that this is a doctored survey that is being used to build a perception against YS Jagan. The party leaders argue that in every survey conducted on the performance of the chief ministers, YS Jagan was among the top five. He was ranked fourth in a similar survey done last year. So, the YSRCP feels that this is a TDP sponsored survey which wants to show Jagan in poor light.

Former minister Perni Nani has even said that the survey was conducted under the leadership of poll strategist Robin Sharma, who had advised Chandrababu Naidu on electoral strategies. He said such sponsored surveys were not trustworthy. However, Chandrababu Naidu has strongly defended the survey and said that the TDP has no hand in the survey. The slugfest is now on. It remains to be seen where it would lead to.
