2024 Polls: Can AP Command The Centre?
X

The divided AP went through two elections already.AP people supported the BJP which was in power at the Centre in the first elections. BJP leaders toured extensively in the state and bigwigs campaigned here. They promised to help build a better capital than Delhi. Special status was also promised for 10 years.

They said the Polavaram national project would be completed. A promise was also made to fulfill the bifurcation promises. As the combined state was divided and people were angry they supported the BJP. It was the time when Modi entered the national politics.

Back then TDP allied with the BJP in AP. People believed Babu’s experience and the BJP’s promises and gave them power. However special status was not granted. The capital city was not constructed and the Polavaram was also not finished. Bifurcation promises were also not addressed. Not happy with TDP-BJP people voted for the YCP in the 2019 polls.

The reason for this is that Jagan batted for the special status. He also said that the promises would be achieved with a fight with the Centre. However the situation did not change even after Jagan came to power. There is a criticism that the Centre kept the YCP in its grip. After coming to power the YCP made it clear that the BJP has a big majority and needs no support hence they cannot do anything.

Amid these consequences the 2024 polls are fast approaching. Both YCP and TDP are trying hard for friendship with the BJP at the Centre. Janasena party is the allay party of the BJP. No party is saying that it will fight the Centre for the state’s interests.

Moreover Chandrababu parted ways with the BJP in 2018 at the wrong time. As BJP’s strength reduced and the opposition parties are getting stronger he is showering praises on Modi and calling him a visionary. The party wants to come to power again in AP in 2024 with an alliance with BJP.

YCP wants to continue its backdoor friendship with the BJP. Janasena is also not doing anything to break ties with the BJP. A question has been raised about the rights of the people in AP. Should we forget the special status? When will the capital city be built and when the Polavaram project will be finished are the questions here. Not just that the bifurcation promises are also pending.

The assets of AP are in Hyderabad. When will the assets be valued worth one and a half lakh crores and who will grant the funds are the questions running in the minds of people in AP. Many say there is no answer to this. It is said that the AP’s situation would not change even if the BJP comes to power for the third time. A debate is going on saying that there will be no difference if YCP or TDP wins the elections in AP. Be it Jagan or Chandrababu will they fulfill the bifurcation promises is the debate here. It is said that people do not think there will be any change after the 2024 polls.
